Formant - 2016 Industrial Design Thesis

Formant is the thesis project I created for my final year at OCAD University. The project won the Umbra "Ready to Launch" award at the 2016 ACIDO Rocket Awards in Toronto.

The aim of the project was to understand and research the emerging maker movement and DIY culture, and apply my existing foundation of instrument building to that context. The final product is a kit that allows users of all skills and abilities to engage in the fun and creative aspects of instrument building, while allowing the opportunity to experiment and create new ideas. The product was designed with an experiential focus whereby the process itself could be just as rewarding as the functional outcome.
